OK, this post is only for real Colin Morgan diehards. Everyone else will just roll their eyes :)

I joined up for a free trial at Highbeam, which is a research place that has a lot of archival newpapers and stuff. I was looking for some family-related stuff, but I decided to do a bit of extra-curricular searching as well :)

I can't link to this, unfortunately, because it's behind a pay wall, but... This has got to be him, right? He would've been 16 in 2002 and there can't have been two Colin Morgans the same age from Armagh, surely? Anyway. Colin's mentioned right at the end, bolded for your convenience. OMG CUTE. Colin, you determined little bugger :)

MOVE over Will Young and Gareth Gates and make way for a new breed of pop talent from Ulster.

Around 100 young people travelled to Belfast's Waterfront Hall yesterday for the You're A Star auditions.

The RTE programme, which goes on air on October 27, is looking for star quality performers. The winner will receive a record contract and go forward to represent Ireland in the 2003 Eurovision Song Contest.

Thirty Ulster popstar wannabes will return for a second audition in Belfast today and perform in front of Phil Coulter, ex-Atomic Kitten band member Kerry Katona and Darren Smith.

Production manager Tony Deegan described Northern Ireland's singing talent as ''amazing''.

''They are a confident bunch. They have chosen a good mix of songs. The judges have a tough task ahead.''

Lynda McQuaid, producer/director of the series, said Ulster's youngsters chose ''more sophisticated'' songs than did their Irish counterparts.
''We've heard the likes of Bob Dylan and Barry Manilow today as opposed to the usual Mariah and Whitney tracks. They've been very good.''

Eighteen-year-old Ande Gray from Lisburn made it through to the next stage by singing Something Stupid by Andy Williams. ''The old music is definitely the best. It's been a great experience and I'm really pleased I'm through.''

Rachel Hinds, 17, from Portaferry also got through to the next round with a version of Stuck in the Middle. ''I'm really excited about getting through. "I've been jumping around like an eejit ever since I was told. This has been a brilliant day.''

However, Laura Hanna, 17, from Belfast wasn't as fortunate. ''They told me they'd keep me in mind for the future. I'm not too disappointed.
"In fact, this has made me more determined to keep trying.''

Her sentiments were echoed by 16-year-old Colin Morgan from Armagh.

''Yeah, I was turned down but it's not the end of the world. I'm going to try and make it on stage one day.''

Further auditions will be held at The City Hotel in Londonderry on October 6.
