Since I was otherwise occupied last week, two episodes for the price of one.

Mixed feelings about ep 3.06, although overall I enjoyed it. I thought Princess Elena was much more appealing when she was clumsy and burpy and Sidhe-whipped than when she was all regal and calm; the bit I loved most was when she whacked Arthur on the arm and told him she wasn't impressed. I could see him potentially falling for that. I almost did myself :)

I wish they'd stuck with season 1 Gwen, adorable word-stumbly confused Gwen. I much preferred her to the Gwen we have now. Don't get me wrong, I love Gwen and I see what they're trying to do there. I fanwank it by pretending it was her father's death that changed her from sweet young girl to slightly bitter woman. We still see the echoes of that Gwen in (for example) the way she laughed openly with Gwaine. But there's something about her archness with Arthur that just grates on me now and again. Only now and again though; when they're being embarrassed and sheepish they're adorable.

I got a bit annoyed at the "eew, old (fat) people having sex" schtick although I know it's for the kiddies. I did enjoy Miriam Margolyes' eye-rolling lip-licking hip-thrusting lustiness. She does it so wonderfully, always has done, ever since the Black Adder days when she was the Spanish Infanta.

It was a bit bizarre that nobody was really concerned with Grunhilda going missing like that, including Elena who Grunhilda has presumably nursed all her life. And oh, Simon Williams, although you will always be James Bellamy to me you are actually much better-looking as an older man than you were back then.

I enjoyed this one too, although it felt a wee bit flat for me for some reason. Maybe that we'd never heard of the existence of Gwen's brother before, or that they didn't really have time to build up the relationship between the two siblings. Poor Angel Coulby is always having to do her best with rather thin material.

However, Arthur in love is cute and Arthur on his knees, and being dragged away by Cenred's men, exceptionally hot. Cenred is also hot. Morgause is such a manipulative bitch; I so hope that we get to see exactly how manipulative, and that Morgana comes to realise how far she's being used. I'm still utterly convinced that Morgause cares far less for Morgana than Morgana thinks she does, and it's still my firm hope that when she discovers how little Morgause cares, that will be the ultimate betrayal which will push Morgana into genuine "evil", rather than evil for Morgause's sake.

I did enjoy the many moments of confrontation between Merlin and Morgana.

Beyond that, my main complaint about both episodes: not enough Merlin. MOAR TITLE CHARACTER PLSTHX. However, Rohan enjoyed them both, and he's my measure for general public (ie, not rabid fangirl) appreciation.
