Top 48 ads that would never be allowed today.

I actually remember a couple of these. My parents were big magazine readers and never chucked anything out, so we had huge stashes of 1960s and 70s Family Circles and Reader's Digests and so forth - UK and US mags as well as Australian - which I worked my way though as a kid. I don't remember any smoking ones though, except the old Virginia Slims 'You've come a long way, baby' ads which don't feature here.

I'm sure these wouldn't be made today, but then advertising has just become more clever about its sexism/racism/pushing feelings of sheer inadequacy...

I just picked up a call from someone I was told had a very thick Scottish accent (they know I like accents)... but when I picked up the phone it was a very thick Northern Irish accent and I had to restrain myself from saying OMG YOU SOUND JUST LIKE COLIN MORGAN.

I may have been just a wee bit nicer to him than I should have been. Hmmm.
